IN the Craven and District Senior Cup 2nd Round Bentham crashed out of this season's competition when they lost by 6-1 to Gargrave.
Bentham's inability to take its early chances proved costly at the end. If they had taken the chances when they were on offer the result would have been much closer. All they had to show for the efforts was a single goal scored by James Earnshaw.

In the Westmorland Football Association Junior Cup 1st Round the local sides had mixed fortunes. Arnside Reserves battled for the whole game against a much more experienced Kendal United Reserves side before going down by 5-3. The Arnside team played its best football of the season so far but it was not quite good enough.

Cartmel Reserves kept the flag flying with a good performance against a good Coniston Reserves side. The architect of the game was the ageless Paul Airey, although he did not get on the score sheet he was the best player on the field and pulled all the right strings at the right time, allowing Richard Spendlove to score two good goals and veteran Brian Lowery the other killer goal.

In the Adam and Gaskell Senior Challenge Cup 2nd Round between Division One side Boys Club and Division Two side Freehold was a cracking match in this much anticipated cup game at Willow Lane. Boys Club entertained a Freehold side that included nine former Boys Club players.

From the early exchanges it looked as though it was going to be an eagerly fought cup tie.

After just 27 minutes of play and in their first meaningful attack Boys Club took the lead, a high ball into Freehold's penalty area could not be controlled by the defenders, Aaron Pearce the Boys Club centre forward was able to rifle the ball high into the net to give his side a 1-0 half time lead.

In the 89th minute Humpage, despite his injuries and being hardly able to walk saved the tie from going into extra time when he made two excellent acrobatic point blank saves to deny Freehold. Boys Club will now be at home to premier division side Ingleton.

In the Premier Division Carnforth Rangers welcomed league leaders Storeys to Quarry Park on a rain free Saturday.

It was thrilling match which looked to be going Storey's way with 10 minutes remaining Carnforth when unmarked Syson shot a 25 yard into the net giving the keeper no chance.

Tic Dynamos joined Storeys at the top with an unconvincing 6-2 win over bottom team Caton United.

Morecambe Hoops gained sweet revenge over Galgate who beat them earlier in the season by beating them this time by 3-2 in a good hard game, Vernon Middleton being the hero for the Hoops with two excellent strikes.

Marsh United wondered what had hit them when they played Cartmel losing 3-1.

Swarthmoor Social Club was on the verge of its first win of the season when they led Kirkby Lonsdale with just 15 minutes remaining after Graham Wilcox (2) and Gavin Jolley had given them a 3-0 lead then as the manager said the. wheels came off and it ended up 3-3.

Ingleton suffered a serious set back to its title aspirations when they got hammered by lowly Morecambe Royals 6-2.

In Division One College Afc and Millhead served up a good game, both sides tried to play football throughout.

The College side was perhaps just the better side but had to rely on two excellent goals scored by Wayne Dixon and Phil Stimpson.

Slyne with Hest (Lcc) kept its unbeaten record intact when the beat a 10 man Highgrove Reserves by a single Lee Davies goal. Leaders Bowerham had a severe test against Morecambe Royals Reserves before winning by 1-0, Simon Gillespie scored the goal that counted.

Bowerham's lead at the top has now stretched to eight points.
Marsh United Reserves must be the most improved side in the division this season.

They beat Storeys Reserves for the second time this season by playing some exciting football.

Kevin Armistead, Ben Simm and player/manager Craig Jackson scored the goals. Paul Boyle scored Storeys lone goal.

In Division Two a hurriedly re-arranged game saw Bolton -le-Sands lose their 100 per cent league record when they were held to a goal less draw by third placed Overton.

Morecambe Cricket Club suffered a serious blow to its promotion hopes when they were well and truly beaten by Slyne with Hest (Lcc) 'A' by 3-1. The Slyne side had only previously won one game so far this season.

Kirkby Lonsdale Reserves game against Middleton was not played due to the Middleton side not turning up for the fixture.

In the Fairclough/ Woodruff/Parkinson/Collegian Cup 1st Round tie between Bentham Reserves and Squires Fc turned out to be a cracker of a cup tie. Both sides played at their best with chances being created at both ends. The game was a credit to both sides as they played open attractive football.

The goal when it came was from a terrific strike by Andy Elder into the top corner of the net giving the keeper no chance. In round two Squires will entertain Allithwaite Rangers.

In Round Two Carnforth Rangers Reserves made the short journey to play local rivals Burton Thistle with a place in the semi-final for the winners.

As the game wore on it was Carnforth who had upper hand as they ran out winners by 2-0 with Seamus Gorton and David Chippendale scoring the goals.
In the League Bolton-le-Sands Reserves had to work hard to overcome a strong Grange Reserves side, winning by 3-1, young Nicholas Pidcock scored twice and James Davies the other. The single goal for Grange Reserves was a belter scored by Ryan McKenny.

Heysham was soon under pressure in its match against Gregson as they lost their keeper after just 10 minutes through injury.

Gregson notched up four before the match was abandoned.

In the Kelly/Cunningham Cup 1st Round Millhead Reserves brought off a shock win over the young and much fancied Highgrove Colts.

The game went to extra time before Millhead finally won the game against the 10 men of the Colts.

Another tight cup game was between Moghuls and College AFc Reserves.

The game could have gone either way, both defences being on top form.

The only goal when it came was against the run of play at the time by Anjde DanBoyi. In the semi-final Moghuls will entertain Villa Royale.

Villa Royale proved too strong for Heysham Reserves. From the first whistle Villa played good football often outplaying the Heysham side that have only won one league game so far this season.

Villa's first goal being scored by Mitchell Dyson from the penalty spot, further goals being scored by Scott Butterworth, Craig Albon and Jamie Luraschi.

The Middleton Reserves v AFc Moorlands game was cancelled when Middleton failed to raise a team.

In the League Ingleton 'A' won its second game of the season when it beat Morecambe Cricket Club Reserves for the second time. The only goal of the game was scored by a jubilant Will Kelly before half time.

Middleton and Middleton Reserves have resigned from the league with immediate effect.

Two transfers: Lee Harrison Grange to Allithwaite Rangers;
James Postlethwaite College AFc to Caton United.
