LANCASTER City hammered bottom side Salford City on Saturday to record their highest win of the season.
City hit four past lowly Salford with no reply meaning they moved up to fourth in the league and notched up two consecutive wins in the league for only the second time this season.

Lee Dodgson scored twice on a day when the only disappointment was
that City could not extend their lead and turn the result into a cricket score.

Dodgson got the scoring underway on 20 minutes. he cut in side at pace, made himself half a yard and rifled a shot into the bottom corner.

Dodgson looked dangerous every time he got the ball, a fact not lost on the Salford defence whose attempts to rough up the winger were fruitless.

The second goal may not have looked as pretty but it was effective. A Ryan Elderton free-kick was parried by the Salford keeper and Mark Jackson reacted quickest and to score.

Just before the break, Ward capped off a good 45 minutes of football when he converted a Lee Dodgson corner. Ward rose highest in the box to convert and while the ball appeared to come off his shoulder he won't mind as it still nestled in the back of the net.

Lancaster were dominant, they barely put a foot wrong and while it is difficult to pull out exceptional performances it is worth noting that Tom Entwisle again showed his versatility deputising at right-back.

Also, once again, Dodgson was class while debutants Adam Airey and goalkeeper Neil Beesley both played well coming off the bench, Beesley for the injured Mark Thornley.

Half-time saw the introduction of Leon Gierke for Dave Foster, who appeared to be struggling on his return from two weeks away.

Gierke, yet to score on his return to the City side, could have had a hatful as he ran riot up front alongside the hard-working Jackson.

The tally soon it became four as Dodgson grabbed his second, and the best, goal of the game. Entwisle burst forward from the back, exchanged passes with Ward and flicked the ball through the defensive lines and into the path of Dodgson. Dodgson easily beat the keeper at his near past with a firmly-struck shot.

Lancaster City: Thornley (Beesley 53), Entwisle, Elderton, Heffernan, Stringfellow, Haddow (Airey 65), Reid, Ward, Foster (Gierke 46), Jackson, Dodgson. Subs not used: Helliwell. King

Referee: D McDonald.

Attendance: 132.
