MORECAMBE may have a new face in their side at Chester on Saturday – with rumours of a return for Danny Carlton – but Sammy McIlroy could be without an amazing 12 players for the game.
Adam Yates suffered a bad gash in the FA Cup win over Grimsby while Ryan McCann picked up a fifth booking prompting a suspension.

McIlroy will wait until later in the week before considering who he will choose for the trip to face a Chester side w
ho are managerless after Simon Davies was sacked on Monday.

The Shrimps have also postponed Wednesday's Reserve team clash with Burnley due to their problems.

McIlroy said: "We are up against it at the moment but hopefully things will improve later on in the week."

The Shrimps boss has been in talks with a club over a loan signing but there was no news as The Visitor went to press on Tuesday. The Vsitor believes the Shrimps could be making another attempt to bring Carlton back to Christie Park.

It is in attack where McIlroy has major concerns with Wayne Curtis and Rene Howe both set to miss Chester.

The situation meant that McIlroy could only field five of the seven allotted substitutes on Saturday – including both Paul Lloyd and Michael Carr who were not fully match fit.

McIlroy said: "I have never known it like this at a football club but we just need to battle on. The spirit was fantastic on Saturday and just shows the lads are having a go and I am proud of them.

"It is frustrating. They are not like leg breaks but little ankle knocks, viruses and niggling things.

"But people have come in, done well and we just have to keep going. We have turned the corner, although we still know we can do better."
Chester are two places below Morecambe but on the same number of points, 13.

McIlroy said: "We are expecting a tough game on Saturday. Everyone is scrapping for points down there and we have just got to keep doin what we are doing."
